People around the world are consuming more, making the proper disposal of plastic more important than ever. Therefore, manufacturers of plastic balers have developed new and innovative designs in order to make plastic balers adapt as seamlessly as possible to a variety of applications. Both vertical and horizontal balers are available for baling numerous types of plastics. The following includes a list of recyclable plastics that can be processed by plastic balers, as well as their corresponding codes.

  • #1 PET (Polyethylene terephthalate) – includes water bottles, oven-safe food trays, and soda bottles
  • #2 HDPE (High-density polyethylene) - includes containers for dairy products like cottage cheese, milk, and yogurt. Other items that fall under this code include grocery bags, trash bags, and cereal box liners.
  • #3 PVC (Polyvinyl chloride) - includes loose leaf binders, plastic food wrap, and bottles for canola oil.
  • #4 LDPE (Low-density polyethylene) – includes plastic bags for frozen food, bread, and for dry cleaning, as well as squeezable bottles for ketchup and honey
  • #5 PP (Polypropylene) – includes caps to aerosol products, caps to medicine bottles, and drinking straws
  • #6 PS (Polystyrene) - includes foam packing peanuts, plastic egg cartons, CD cases, and plastic tableware
  • #7 (Other Plastics) - includes other recyclable plastic products such as plastic food containers, water jugs, and reusable water bottles

Not all of these 7 codes listed are accepted at every recycling center, but they are continually expanding to be completely inclusive. Additionally, most recycling centers will not accept your plastic unless it is baled. It is imperative to inquire what is available in your area and what recycling programs are in place at your business in order to acquire the baler that best suits your needs. Fortunately, the plastic baler companies listed here on IQS have teams of expert engineers and salespeople who will help you find the plastic baler you need as well as any additional inquiries about plastic recycling.
